Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

(above: Santa’s upgraded his sleigh this year)

A Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone!

As I’m sure you’ve all noticed, our entries have slowed down somewhat, mostly due to the fact that Juicy is on the other side of the planet and I’m busy playing tour guide for family that’s in town for the holidays. But fear not! We’ll be back in full swing next week and into 2013.

On behalf of Juicy, thanks to everyone for your views, comments, and overall support this year. Hearing someone say “I love the blog, guys” means a lot to us. When we started this blog we didn’t think we’d get this much recognition (we were happy with 50 views/week!), so it’s definitely been a pleasant surprise for us. Thanks, guys! See you in 2013.

Gentleman and Scholar Award #2 – Yammo

DSC_9214

(The beard is too epic for Nikon to handle, thus the blurry picture.)

The second ever Official Overhoppers Gentleman and Scholar Award goes to Yammo of Team Ravens for sporting the epicness that is the above moustache, long after the end of Movember and well into December – or, as he calls it, “Decem-beard.”

Well done, sir. Well done.

*slow clap*

From YouTube: KWA Kriss Vector & WE M&P

Above video is from Airsoft Taiwan (AST) – what was formerly known as RA-Tech. I foresee fancy parts in the future!

Above video is from KhanSeb, lots of great gun demo clips from that guy. No range testing of his guns, though.

You’re welcome.

P.S. I’ll be on vacation till the New Year – so Merry Christmas, Happy New Year to all of you in advance.

Last Game Day at Tsawwassen Paintball

For one final hurray, Fireteam Bro shot stuff at the last Airsoft day at Tsawwassen Paintball on Sunday, December 9th, 2012. The following two video clips are what player “Antares” captured at the end of the day.

Fireteam Bro has become fond of running drills, fiddling with equipment, and general tomfoolery in the speedball field at Tsawwassen. Here is a clip from one of our final, live-fire exercises done at this field (please do excuse my language, I fumbled through a reload):

Here we have the final Airsoft game played at the Tsawwassen field (recorded a few moments earlier):

Note that Antares did capture other video clips, but not all have or will be uploaded to YouTube at this time. If there are more from this day, I’ll be editing to add them into this post below.

Review: Real Sword Type 56-1

DSC_9178A pay raise at work and a shiny new gun going up for sale on the forums is a dangerous combination. The result of said combination is above – a Real Sword Type 56-1.

Read on after the break for my impressions after a full day of gaming my new toy.

Test, test.

Just did some live-fire practice (along with Jester and Antares) two weeks ago and I attempted to film it… and this is the junk video clip that resulted.

I am in no way proud of this video. It doesn’t help that my camera’s battery died mid-way through our session. Nor does the terrible image quality. Or does the horrible camera placement.

However, I will eventually get the Overhoppers YouTube channel up and running in a much more presentable manner, though it’ll take some time before we get there.

Does size matter?

IMG007

This has yet to be scientifically proven. By that, I may have been referring to barrel length… or it may have been in regards to phallic matters.

Anyway, here’s a picture showing you the contrast in length between a SVD and my AK-102 (or whatever you want to call it) – my AK’s overall length with stock folded is actually slightly shorter than the barrel length found on the SVD.

This picture may also lead to a future filled with underslung AK carbines under a SVD barrels.

The owner of the Real Sword SVD pictured is “8th_Army” (the guy holding the guns in this picture).

Haul – Doubletaptactical.ca

DSC_9174

Above are three FCC boards for my PTW. I paid a ridiculous amount for them – not because Double Tap Tactical overcharges for them (on the contrary – their prices are more than reasonable and their customer services is definitely top notch)… it’s just that PTW stuff is inherently expensive.

I’ll hopefully have them installed (by my awesome buddy Ali who is super cool and will do an awesome job of installing these boards because he’s super cool and stuff) sometime this week, and I’m hopeful that they’ll solve the mechanical gremlin that’s plagued my PTW since I’ve owned it. I’ll report back once I’ve had a chance to field the gun with the new boards.

LCT AK Carbine: After-Action Review

Turns out I have indeed very much missed running an AK. For the past two weeks (hence two game days), I’ve run my LCT AK-104 with AK-105 skeleton stock/receiver. I did paint it (link to previous post here)… though I’m not really sure what colours ended up on there. With a little scuffing around on the carpets at the office, I developed some very minor wear. And then I played with it, today.

IMG004

This is what you get. Though not 100% of the wear is from actual use – all of it is done naturally (i.e. with my hand or a gloved hand handling the AK and manipulating the controls). I do expect it to wear further, as the paint used is probably not going to stick on the unprepped surface. However, the worn, painted look is what I’m going for anyway. Oh well, it’ll look better with age.”Dice” (a fellow Airsoft player) mentioned to me that the paint job looks like the AK’s you see in the new Medal of Honor: Warfighter video game, though I haven’t actually gotten my copy from a guy who works at EA yet… *hint hint, Arc9*Read on for a bit of tech talk in regards to my findings with the internals and results of a few simple upgrades.

Painted LCT AKS-105

IMG-20121130-WA0012

I recently traded Jester for his brand new LCT AK-105 receiver/stock – hence the different stock. This allows me to run my sling(s) through the skeleton stock. This makes everything surprisingly easier, as I prefer to be slung up while I shoot.

IMG-20121130-WA0013

I’ll be doing the wear by hand and regular usage (paint job definitely inspired by the AK-74MN from the video game Battlefield 3). I’m relying on the light 1-2 coats of non-Krylon paint having difficulty sticking to grimy/greasy surfaces – this allows me to rub the paint off in certain areas (e.g. pistol grip). It was initially supposed to be more brown than green, but I guess that’s what I get for guessing at the colours on long-rubbed-away paint can labels in the spray paint cabinet at work. The paracord wrap is something to keep the cold metal away from my face when getting a good cheek weld (look it up online for how to do it yourself) – that’s something I can’t stand about metal stocks.
